Playback Theatre is improvisational theatre in which audience members tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted – or played back – on the spot.

Playback was founded in 1975 by Jonathan Fox who was studying improvisation and psychodrama in the Hudson Valley area in upstate New York.

The Playback form honors personal stories from all segments of society and bears

witness to both the differences and commonalities among people.
